The YesterYears Collection

A Young Girl's Dream

When I'm older I'll have alot of fun,
Along with swimming I'll bathe in the Sun,
I'll shop all day all I want,
Dye my hair a dark blonde,
I'll throw parties special and hilarious,
And wear clother extra impressive,
I'll eat as much as I please,
And won't care for calories,
I'll cut my hair as I like,
Get a cool motorbike,
I'll have my own credit card,
Chauffer, Maid and Bodyguard,
But then I'll hear my mother yell,
"Wake up or you'll miss the school bell!"

On Childhood

Little windows shed light,
Bygone childhood comes to sight,
Fragrant innocence creeps in,
Age of foolishness; no count of sin,
Livelihood, colourful time,
All life was a nursery rhyme
-Maryam,1999

Darkness Meets Light

Awakened from forests faraway,
Comes a tale to live today,
Fearing horrors that loom there,
Wants it's past to disappear,
Needs courage to put aside,
All regrets it wants to hide,
Against all odds it smiles wide,
Mounts a horse ready to ride,
Together they enter a world of green,
Bright sunlight waters clean,
Both chant as Future gleams,
They get a chance to live their dreams,
No one knows what goes so right,
Darkness of forest meets light
-Maryam,2000

I Observe

Awaited events seem faraway,
Those forgotten come rushing my way,
Things cared for often go wrong,
Hopeless conditions appear a song,
Not a word I know; I ace a test,
While knowing all; I fail a test,
Disappointment comes from trusted friends,
Hope arises from farthest ends,
Mirrors lie in face of mine,
Unveiling Truth with powers Divine,
Silence creates noise it has got nerve,
I sit in a corner and observe
-Maryam,2002
